Tip - If using tissue pattern pieces, iron the pattern pieces flat before cutting your fabric. This will ensure you are cutting an accurate size.
Always prewash your fabric before beginning any sewing project. Prewashing will allow for shrinkage and remove any sizing the manufacturer has used. The hand of your fabric may change as well. A lot of fabrics will get softer and thicker with washing.
Before washing a woven fabric, serge the cut ends together to minimize twisting in the wash and dry. Twisting could result in unremovable wrinkles.
